Welcome to the memorial page for

Barbara Diane (Brown) Johnson

August 22, 1948 ~ September 18, 2017 (age 69) 69 Years Old

Washington, DC

Barbara Diane Brown was the beloved first daughter born to the late William David and Anne Elizabeth Brown, in Williamston, N.C., on August 22, 1948.  She joined Mount Horeb Baptist Church over fifty four years ago, by Baptism on March 31, 1963 and was very much involved in both Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and the Girl Scouts of Mount Horeb.  Diane had a beautiful soprano vocal range and enjoyed singing with various choirs of the church, often as a featured soloist in the Chancel Choir, Inspirational Choir, Gospel and Consoling Choirs.

Diane graduated from Eastern Senior High School in 1966 and returned to North Carolina, to work in Raleigh Durham, where she met her husband, Harris Johnson. Shortly thereafter, she attended the University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor, where she received a B.S. Degree in Geography.

Diane returned to Washington, DC and began a long career with the Department of Commerce, Census Bureau, as a Geographer.  She also pursued hobbies that resulted in beautiful creations of tapestry, stain glass, crochet and knitted items that were given as gifts to family and friends.  Her creations were enjoyed by many and often displayed at Mount Horeb’s Fall Festivals.  Diane retired in 2015, after twenty five years of dedicated service, as a result of health issues.

Diane remains forever in the hearts of her two sisters, Gwendolyn Elaine and Beverly Brown, two nephews, Larry Rooths and Marquis Lofton, and a great-niece, Yndia Rooths, two aunts, Wilhelmina Amado and Beatrice Nettingham and a host of relatives and many friends.
