Mary Lucille (Council) Land

Mrs. Mary Lucille Council Land, 92 of Williamston, NC, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 23, 2023, surrounded by loved ones at her bedside. 

Funeral Services will take place on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Cedar Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Williamston, NC. She will lie in state from 12:00 noon until time of service. A viewing will also be held on Monday, March 27, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Manson Mortuary, Inc., Williamston, NC. Interment will follow in Land Cemetery, Williamston, NC. A face-covering is required for all services. 

Mary was born in the town of Williamston, NC on November 10, 1930 to the late Leatha Council and the late Arline Council. She was the only child of this union. She was raised by her late grandfather JW Rodgers and late grandmother Victoria Rodgers. After losing her mother, her father Arline Council re-married and she was blessed with her sister, Rev. Doris Barnes and her brother, Lennie Council.

Mary joined Cedar Hill Baptist Church -Williamston, NC where she spent her time serving on the usher board and with the kitchen staff. Later, she became a mother of the church.

Mary was joined in Holy Matrimony to George Lester Land, and to this union, they had three beautiful children named Michael Adolph Land, Reginald Land, and Mildred Linda Holley. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed cooking and sewing. She worked at Martin General Hospital over 25 years.

Mary leaves to cherish her memory her loving children -Michael Land of Williamston, NC, Reginald Land (Sue) of Durham, NC, and Mildred Holley (Joel) of Windsor, NC.; ten grandchildren —Jerome Goddard, Shawn Rodgers, Ninotchka Land, Michael Land Jr., Maria Land, Jared Land, Aleea Land, Trinette Jones (Scott), Joel Holley Jr., and Kenwanka Holley; eleven great-grandchildren; loving sister -Rev. Doris Barnes of Greenville, NC and Lennie Council of Greenville, NC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
