Dear Sis,

I am going to missed our after - dinner talks around the supper table. Some families simply do not talk, and it is astounding to me how many people I know, who go off on speaking terms with their siblings, parents, and close friends. I am so grateful for our Sunday -after- Mom’s meal – talks, and it hurts to know that we will not be talking anytime soon.

As I held Raj in my arms this evening as he cried, I thought how does one explain death to a child. Then I thought, if his Auntie Sheda was here she would have explained all of this in her scholarly way, while taking into account he just a twelve – year old boy, but even more so it would all make sense to him. The Bible states, that it is natural to wonder why people die, especially when we lose someone close to us.

You were an amazing aunt, a great sister, and a loving daughter. All big shoes to fill, in which you laid the steps for us to follow. The day we will see each other again, I hope it will be around a supper table so we can have one of our family talks and I can tell you all about your steps that I followed as well as the ones I laid myself.

Love you today and I will love you until my last breath.

Your lil’ sis,

Ty

Sheda and I started working at UNC about the same time and talked a lot about the changes in our lives. I loved her gentle manner, and would laugh at her description of how she could become "New York" on the rude bus riders! We shared a lot of hugs and tears and I will miss her every day. She is at peace now; God be with us all as we make our peace with her passing.

I LOVED me some Sheda! She was my soul train line partner. She always made me smile and supported me with anything. Even helping my baby girl get an internship with someone she knew all the way in Atlanta because she knew she was planning to attend Clark Atlanta University in the Fall.

She will forever be in my heart. I will do the two step down the soul train line knowing she is two stepping right beside me with her angel wings on. I love you all as Sheda loved me.

God Bless,
Regina Brown
